Migori County Commissioner David Gitonga has taken a bold step and is determined to end drug trafficking in Migori County.
Speaking during a multi-agency meeting in Migori County, Gitonga said the meeting aimed to formalize and strengthen the teams in the fight against illicit brews and hard drugs in Migori.
“The main aim of today’s meeting is to formalize and strengthen the multi-agency team on the fight against illicit brews and other substances that are abused in the county,” he said.

He noted that the fight against drug and substance abuse is a long-chain program coordinated by President Ruto through the county security personnel.
Since the onset of a nationwide crackdown on illicit brew ordered by Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, the authorities in Migori have nabbed 60 KGs of Bhang, 92,000 liters of Kangara (the local illicit brew), and 10,000 liters of Chang’aa, leading to the closure of 17 bars in the region.
“I am daring any drug peddler to challenge me, and you’ll surely know that law exists in this country,” the county commissioner warned.

He further warned the drug barons who are playing hide and seek with the authorities that their days are numbered and they won’t find it easy at all.
“Continue playing your hide-and-seek game, but I assure you, things will be messy for you before you know it,” he noted.
This stern warning came days after a vehicle hired to transport Bhang across the Tanzania–Kenya border was flagged down.
Taking a Firm Stand
“In this spirit of making this county a drug-free zone, we recently nabbed a vehicle ferrying bhang from Tanzania to Kenya,” he said.

He dedicated the success to the well-coordinated program from the top county security to the division level,” said Gitonga.
He also requested that members of the public join hands and support them in fighting the menace, while also thanking those who have leaked information to them.
In the meeting were also the National Authority for Campaigns against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Anti Counterfeits, and county government officials.
