In my lifetime I have tried and tested several business ideas. Many have failed and only a few have been profitable.

In today’s guide to business ideas to start in Kenya, I will share with you some of the top business ideas that I have tried in Kenya and how they performed.

9 Business Ideas That I Tested in Kenya in 2024 and How They Performed

Here’s a list of some of the best business ideas that I had done personally in 2023 and how they are all performing to date.

1). Online Trading Business idea

If you know me on the internet or a personal level then you know that trading is the number one way that I use to make money online.

I trade Forex, I also trade Fixed Time Trades. And if you ask me, these two are still my best ways to make money online in 2024.

How much do I make trading in a day?

Let’s look at last week Friday for example, I grew my XM Forex Trading account from $40 to $600+ in a single day.

Though I have many other blogs that I just started recently, this is where I put most of my efforts.

And how much do I make blogging here?

Well, that depends on various factors.

Factors like how many visitors I get in a month, the type of monetization that I am using, how much a client is willing to pay, and how much I’m willing to take.

Overall, blogging is one of the best business ideas that I have tested over the years since 2018, and believe me it’s still one of the best.

And in each of those years, this blog has never done anything below Ksh. 3 million in a year.

2024 is still underway. Let’s see if blogging in itself can break the 4 million mark.

If there is any easy way that I have used to make money online longer then it’s this method.

To all the avid fans of this blog, affiliate marketing needs no introduction.

It’s as much fun as it is easy. As someone who needs to start a business in 2024, you do not even need to have money to explore this business idea.

All you have to do is identify a product that you can promote and earn a commission for all the sales that you drive to the owner of the product.

Some of the best affiliate products that I promoted in 2023 paid me as much as $3,500 in a day. Yes, over Ksh. 350,000 in a day. Not once, not twice, and not thrice but a couple of times.

4). TikTok Business Ideas

Most people do TikTok videos for fun but for me, I get paid to do TikTok videos.

I was paid Ksh. 114,000 for my first-ever TikTok video. Would you believe that?

So how do people make money with TikTok?

One of the easiest ways to make money with the TikTok business idea is to seek brand endorsement deals.

Businesses that deal online such as Forex, and other eCommerce businesses are almost always ready to pay you money if you have a following and the energy to push their brands.

If you are just starting as a TikTok influencer though, consider promoting small businesses and charging them per expected views.

The simplest model to charge brands on TikTok and end up profitable is to ask for an upfront payment of say Ksh. 5,000 before you make the video and another Ksh. 5,000 when you post the video.

That’s if the anticipated views are 10,000.

5). YouTube Business Idea

Though I have been doing videos every other week for the past 6 months, I haven’t quite broken the YouTube algorithm.

This is one of those business ideas that I’m still struggling with.

Maybe it’s because I am still camera shy or it’s because people don’t like to consume the kind of content that I am creating.

Truth be told, I barely make $100 a month with my videos on YouTube.

That’s not to say that it’s a hard nut to crack, you can crack it if you hit it harder.

Maybe, I should start being consistent with my videos. In which case I’m hoping that by the time I’ll be doing my next review for business ideas tried and tested in 2023, YouTube will come first.

6). Tent-Making Business

You would think that since I am already trying all these other online businesses, I wouldn’t have time for a physical business.

Oh! You are wrong.

Ken and Tom Tents is still a recognizable brand in Kisumu. I still make and sell tents.

From double pyramids to gables, and gazebos, all the way to custom-made tents for anything.

1 double pyramid tent goes for Ksh. 100,000 plus and at least Ksh. 2,500 for a day’s hire.

I’ll not go deep into that, do the math.

7). Telegram Signals Channel

9). Online Writing Business

Now, this is different from blogging. In blogging, I write my posts and make money through Adsense, and sponsored posts among other methods.

In online writing, I seek clients who need blog posts for their new or existing websites and charge at least $100 per 1000-word post.

Is online writing a viable business idea in 2024? Yes!

Where should you hang out to find your first client? You can seek editors on LinkedIn or Twitter and request to write sample posts for their publications.

If your work is accepted, forward your charge per post and notify them of your availability for more posts.

With online writing, I can easily make $500 to $1,000 extra if I write at least 5 articles in a month.
