2020 was a great year for me. I grew my business (Joon Online) from 433,000 views in 2019 to over a million views in 2020. — with over 97% of the traffic being organic. And a little over 2M in 2021.
But perhaps the best news thus far is; I have earned Ksh. 9.9 Million plus over the same period.
Isn’t this good news?
- Start trading with $1
- Earn up to 95% profits
- Fast payments
- $10 minimum deposit
- $10 minimum withdrawal
Isn’t this success? I wouldn’t hesitate to call it that. Especially knowing that most newbie bloggers struggle to make this kind of money in under 1 year.
Broken down this transliterates to about Ksh. 800,000 monthly.
I wouldn’t trade blogging for any other small business in Kenya.
- Start trading with $1
- Earn up to 95% profits
- Fast payments
- $10 minimum deposit
- $10 minimum withdrawal
In this post, I’ll share with you a list of other small business ideas that will be great to start in 2024.
Some of them are businesses that I am already doing with success while others are experimental and promising growth in 2024.
To begin with:
1. Blogging.
Did I already mention that it is only through blogging that I earned over 3.9 Million shillings in 2020?
- Start trading with $1
- Earn up to 95% profits
- Fast payments
- $10 minimum deposit
- $10 minimum withdrawal
So, how did I do it?
In December 2018 I set up my blog on this domain – Joon.co.ke. I didn’t know that I’d make money with it, and neither did I want to.
All I wanted was to share my views about social, financial, and economic topics, teach people about DIY topics (for free), and perhaps share business ideas and investment opportunities found on the internet.
Later, I’d learn that bloggers made money doing different gigs on their platforms. Some of those gigs are: –
- Advertising.
- Affiliate marketing.
- Sponsored posts.
- Writing and selling eBooks.
- Creating eCourses.
- Consultancy and coaching.
- Selling Freelance services.
- Among other gigs.
I tried the first three methods and 3 years later, I have done over Ksh. 9 million in revenue.
- Start trading with $1
- Earn up to 95% profits
- Fast payments
- $10 minimum deposit
- $10 minimum withdrawal
From my projection, blogging is still going to be a great way to make money in 2024 and you could make as much money in 2024 if you started today.
In case you are sold for this kind of business and are wondering how to start; take your time and read about this DIY method I posted earlier in 2019 – How to Build a Website With $59 only.
I can also help you with the development process if you want me to. Contact us via WhatsApp at the bottom left of this post to state your specifications.
2. Sell Stock Photos Online.
Unknown to many youths (who by the way take a lot of photos daily for social media); selling photos is a proven way to help make money online.
Scott, a blogger at Trader Scooter and an entrepreneur has been doing this for years and cashed in Ksh. 10,340,000.00 selling photos on different stock photo sites.
Photo sales reports on his website show that Scott has earned: –
- Ksh. 2,310,266.20 from Shopify.
- Ksh. 4,220,788.00 Shutterstock.
- Ksh. 1,421,750.00 from BigStockPhoto.
- Ksh. 25,850.00 from Stockfresh.
Isn’t this amazing? You too could use this business idea to make some money in 2024. All you need is a camera and accounts on either or all of these sites.
You will earn a portion of the revenue earned on your photos for a lifetime.
3. Start Your Printing Business in 2024.
Printing is one of the most profitable businesses in Kenya. Of course, if you have the best equipment and have a huge network to leverage on.
Imagine making Kshs. 90,000 in a week off branding a 20-foot lorry, Kshs. 40000 for a Nisan, Kshs. 80000 for a bus or Kshs. 35000 for a Nisan; would you want to join the business?
The only disadvantage is, that you will need a huge capital to pull this one-off. However, Capital should not be a deterrent as you can always take a business loan and pay it back later.
You can also start with a small amount focusing on smaller printing projects then use your retained profits to expand.
In which case you will only be printing: –
- Frost/clear/tint stickers.
- Roll broad base.
- Roll a small base.
- Non-glare matt banner.
- Vinyl stickers.
- X-stands.
- Billboard 12m ×10m.
- Among other materials.
The least you can make from such small printing projects is Ksh. 700. On a brighter side, you can earn up to Ksh. 48,000 on other single projects.
4. Use 1.5 Million to Start a Timber Yard Retail Business in 2024.
Timberyard businesses are common in Kenya. You wouldn’t walk a mile in any of the major towns without coming across one.
And that’s precise because: –
- The building and construction industry is growing and with it, more timber is needed.
- The furniture industry is growing and with it, there is a need for more timber to make carpentry products.
But how much revenue do these timber yard businesses make in a year? Are they really profitable?
A trusted report by Kenya Know How indicates that a lorry full of Blue Gum and Cypress timber costs Kshs. 800,000 would leave a profit of Ksh. 300,000.
And this is a figure you can make in a day depending on your traffic.
If you are thinking of starting a small profitable business in 2024 then it is well worth it.
- Start trading with $1
- Earn up to 95% profits
- Fast payments
- $10 minimum deposit
- $10 minimum withdrawal
5. Start the Petrol Station Business in 2024.
Have you been to Kisumu lately?
Apart from the good roads and housing projects coming up almost everywhere, there is a rise in the number of petrol stations.
This is because a petrol station is as much profitable as a blogging business. And it is now easier to invest.
You can either invest as a franchisee or as an independent petrol business owner.
As a Franchisee, you can either start your petrol station under – Total, Kenol Kobil, Oil Libya, National Oil…
Alternatively, build and grow your own brand from scratch.
On average, you will need a capital of 4 Million Kenya Shillings — good suppliers, a good location, and a good reputation to make a profit of Ksh. 200,000 monthly.
6. Start Offering Laundry Business Services.
The laundry business is among the small businesses that you can start with little or no capital in Kenya.
Among the services offered in the laundry businesses are: – wet washing of clothes, dry cleaning, ironing, and packaging for pick up. Services that can be done by an individual with no start-up capital.
If you are interested in this kind of business then get individuals, households, hotels, lodgings, and/or corporate clients to work for.
Should you want to get a physical location for your business and make your shop professional and distinguished from the rest of the existing laundry businesses; buy a dryer, an ironing board, a washing machine or two, tables, hunger, pegs to start with.
All this equipment plus licenses and other start-up overheads should cost Ksh. 200,000.
- Start trading with $1
- Earn up to 95% profits
- Fast payments
- $10 minimum deposit
- $10 minimum withdrawal
Get a good location, efficient manpower, offer better pricing, and functioning management and you will make an average of Ksh. 30,000 monthly.
7. Start a Fruit Juice Business in 2023.
The fruit juice bar is another small business that did well in 2024. And which still has a greater potential of making you profits in 2024.
A recent consumer survey has indicated that over 90% of households purchased their fruits and vegetables from two or fewer outlets. About 80 % used the same number for meat. For staple foods (sugar, maize flour, tea leaves, etc) only 30 % used a regular retailer.
This only means one thing; once you acquire a client you can continue to make profits from them for as long as you keep selling.
Some of the most consumed fruits in Kenya include: – oranges, mangoes, avocados, watermelon, and pawpaw.
You can also include beetroots in the list for cocktail juice.
If you are looking to start a signature fruit bar then get a Ksh. 200,000 ready for 2024.
That should cater for the licenses, equipment, stock, rent, electricity, and salaries (in case you will be hiring).
You can make as much as Ksh. 3,000 daily with this hustle.
8. Start a Wines And Spirits Agency.
If a wines and spirits agency is your dream business of 2024 then make sure to set aside Ksh. 300,000 before Christmas for the startup.
Disappointingly, licenses will take 10% of your capital.
- Start trading with $1
- Earn up to 95% profits
- Fast payments
- $10 minimum deposit
- $10 minimum withdrawal
Nevertheless, Ksh. 270,000 should just be enough to take care of everything else including stock and rent.
Keep in mind that your revenue will be influenced by customer loyalty, competition, supplies, country/county laws, and location among other revenue pointers.
Contact us for a list of trusted suppliers if you want to start this business in Nairobi, Kenya.
9. Start a Milk Distribution Agency.
As a distributor, your job is to link milk processors and retailers.
You can do this very well if you understand your region/locality in terms of the location of retail outlets, consumer behavior, customer preference, and the best brands to push fast.
If you want to work with established brands like Tuzo, Brookside, Molo Milk, Lato, and the like – from an official distribution standpoint; then try to raise at least Ksh. 300,000 for the startup.
Ksh. 200,000 will obviously go to the company you chose to work with as a security deposit.
Did I already mention that milk distributors work form 4. AM?
The good news, you can make at least Ksh. 2 per packet of milk. As much as you want if you work hard. And an average of Ksh. 100,000 monthly if you love our hustle.
10. Start a Motorcycle Spare parts Business in Kenya.
This is one of the small businesses to start with Ksh. 300,000 capital.
Spare parts stock will take half of the capital. You can use the other half for rent, licenses, branding, employee salaries, and other overheads.
- Start trading with $1
- Earn up to 95% profits
- Fast payments
- $10 minimum deposit
- $10 minimum withdrawal
You can start by stocking these fast-moving motorcycle spare parts instead of rounding over everything: – tires, tubes, rims, side mirrors, brake shoes, indicator lamps, spark plugs, front & rear sprockets, engine oil, cables, return springs, head cases, dimmer switches, and side mirror holders.
Stock the rest of the parts with the demand.
Profits for spare part businesses in Kenya range from Ksh. 30,000 to infinite figures in a month.
11. Trade With Olymp Trade.
Olymp trade is a platform for trading in financial markets.
It is the most popular options trading platform in the world with over 20,000,0000 users already registered and trading to make money.
As a beginner, you can open a demo account to trade either in the Forex or FTT market.
An Olymp Trade FOREX account is used to open long (hoping the price will go up) or short (hoping the price will go down) positions at the current price with unlimited duration of the trade.
There is no spread in Olymp Trade (the difference between the buy and sell prices), but there is a brokerage fee that one has to pay when executing trades or holding them until the next day.
An Olymp Trade FTT account on the other hand is used to make two types of FTT deals: based on the trade duration (from 1 minute to several hours) and on the expiration time (from 1 minute).
You can trade for fun on the Olymp Trade Demo account or trade with real cash to make real money.
As a real account trader, you can get up to 92% profit for a correctly predicted jump in the rate of a currency pair or other asset.
- Start trading with $1
- Earn up to 95% profits
- Fast payments
- $10 minimum deposit
- $10 minimum withdrawal
Interestingly, you can start with a $10 deposit, trade for only $1, and withdraw your profits almost instantly. There is no fee charged on withdrawals.
12. Start Tents & Chairs for Hire Business.
For this business, you will need tents, chairs, and manpower.
Start with at least 1 single pyramid tent, 4 double pyramid tents, a gazebo tent, and 500 chairs.
On average, all these items needed for small-scale tents and chairs for a hire startup will cost you Ksh. 600,000.
Get a good location, clean your tents and chairs as soon as they are back from a gig and you will be in business longer.
A single pyramid tent for hire will go for Ksh. 2,000. Double pyramid tents for hire go for Ksh. 2,500 on the minimum but you can get as high as Ksh. 3,000 in a good deal.
Gazebo tents go for Ksh. 1,000 and chairs for only Ksh. 10.
Being that I am also making and selling tents, I’ll sincerely tell you that it is a good one for 2024. However, there is stiff competition as many people have discovered the gold hidden in this kind of business.
Have a good business plan and a planned out marketing strategy and you will do well.
13. Gym Business.
Kenyans have started embracing fitness. And this is a good thing because you can now start your gym and make money training your neighbors.
Interestingly, the gym in Kenya is the kind of business that only needs Ksh. 500,000 capital to start but you can recover your capital and start making profits in a little under 6 months.
All you need to start earning is: – a good location, hire experienced trainers, roll out a membership plan, and keep in touch with your members.
You can only equip the gym with an exercise bike for starters, dumbbell sets, barbell rods, weights, benches, leg presses, a power rack, a cable machine, mirrors, a music system, and a weight rack.
Most of this equipment can be made locally at a lower cost.
Kisumu gym businesses charge as little as Ksh. 50 for a single session with the highest being Ksh. 6,500 monthly subscriptions.
As a gym owner, try to target individuals, hotels, corporate, and university/college school students.
14. Daycare Business.
Starting a daycare is another great way to usher in 2024.
The business targets working mums with toddlers and infants — so I’d advise that you start your daycare in urban areas for maximum profits and in semi-urban areas if you just want to do it as a hobby.
You can operate within these hours – 8 Am – 6 Pm and charge Ksh. 100 per child per day.
The trick is to get as many children as possible. And that also means you have to hire caretakers for efficient child care and management.
On average you will get 10 children aged between 1 and 5 years coming in daily but your target should be 20 or more to make at least Ksh. 60,000 monthly in revenue.
All expenses deducted, you can make a cool Ksh. 30,000 profits monthly.
You can also customize your services to rake in more profits. For example, you can offer free diapers and increase the upkeep fees.
15. Start a Salon Business With Low Capital.
If you know how to weave, make braids, and style hair then you might want to start a hair salon business in 2024.
While it requires close to zero capital to start, except for the cost of rent, a few plastic chairs, and a mirror; you will need to be both professional, popular, and flexible in services to crack the business.
On the flip side, you can purchase an operating salon business for at least Ksh. 400,000; keep the clients, in a good location, and continue raking profits at optimal operations.
For an executive salon and SPA, you can part with as high as Ksh. 2,000,000.
Such high-end salons can make you as little as Ksh. 50,000 daily but of course, the sky is the limit.
16. Start a Hardware Business.
Hardware businesses are largely dominated by Indians in Kisumu. Perhaps because they know the value of owning those stores and would rather do any other business than continue operating hardware stores.
Nevertheless, there are a few brave Africans who have ventured into the business and made it big. An example of such a hardware store in Kisumu is Uyoma Naya Hardware in Nyamasaria.
Hasn’t that hardware grown beyond its capacity?
To start mini hardware in Kisumu in 2024, set aside Ksh. 700,000. This should cater to some of the fastest moving stock and leave you with some cash flow for the needed black market purchase..
Because if you will make it in this business, you will buy those goods. Lest your competition to set the prices lower to throw you out of business.
Should you go past the break-even point with a hardware business then your guarantee is a Ksh. 10,000 daily profits.
17. Start a Cosmetic Store in 2024.
The cosmetics industry has some of the fastest-growing businesses in Kenya. Talk of Linton’s Beauty World, Reones Beauty and Supplies, Suzzie Beauty, Western Cosmetics, and Supplements… to name but a few.
Each year these businesses make millions of shillings in profits with higher projections for the following years.
But, did you know that it doesn’t cost so much to start a cosmetics shop business in Kenya?
In fact, it is one of the businesses in which you can start with close to zero capital.
In most cases, you would just need a social media presence and affiliate products to promote.
You can just buy one product that resonates with you and then do a video reviewing it. Place it on YouTube with your affiliate links pointing to the product and wait to start earning.
A worst-case scenario to spend cash is when you want to either promote your video on Google or Facebook. But come on, you can spend as little as Ksh. 2,000 daily on sponsored ads and make as much as 10,000 in daily commissions.
Alternatively, go to the brick and motorway and start your cosmetics store with a physical location.
You will need close to Ksh. 300,000 to start. You can then fund the growth of that business with retained profits.
Here is a list of popular cosmetic suppliers in Kenya.
18. Sell Bottled Water.
A bottled water company is a lucrative venture to pursue in Kenya. At least if you have capital. You will need as much as Ksh. 1,500,000 to start.
However, Ksh. 500,000 can also be just enough for an under-equipped plant.
Not to worry though;1.5 M or 500 K, this initial investment will cater for rent for the premise, water storage tanks, standard water treatment equipment, KEBS standardization mark, license, Water, Electricity, Marketing budget, and general office expenses.
A plant started with 500K and operating at its optimal production capacity can generate a revenue of Ksh. 400,000 monthly. However, your profits will be Ksh. 100,000 or slightly more after reducing all expenses.
Small Profitable Businesses to Start With 10K in 2024.
If you are looking to start something that costs low capital to start and has the potential of spewing so many profits then look no further than this section of the post.
Among other exciting small businesses you can start: –
– Selling Coffee and Maandazis.
Coffee vending is one of the most profitable hustles to start in Kenya. All you need is ready coffee in a portable coffee dispenser and ready-made mandazis and you are in business.
On average you might need only Ksh. 5000 to start the business and make Ksh. 1,000 or more vending coffee both in the morning and in the evening.
– Blogging Business.
Just like I said at the beginning of this post, blogging is one of the fastest-growing businesses in Kenya. And perhaps the most lucrative if you know what you are doing.
Interestingly, you only need about Ksh. 5,900 to start your blog. This money will cater for the hosting of your website for 1 year.
I have already earned Ksh. 1,367,736.24 blogging in 2019 and a little over 8.9 Million in 2022 and 2023. You can earn more in 2024 if you start today.
Create your blog with Bluehost.
– Become a Freelance Online Writer.
Online writing has always been a great way to make money from home. It is the only business on this list that might not need any capital at all to start.
As long as you are good at the English language and are willing to start writing for pay, you are good to go. Except if you don’t have a laptop, an internet connection, or a phone to keep in touch with your clients.
Nevertheless, you can get this DELL laptop for as little as Ksh. 10,399 to jump-start your online writing career.
Buy Laptop to start writing and earn online. Only Ksh. 10, 399.
– New or Secondhand Clothes Business.
The clothing business is just as lucrative as any other small business in Kenya.
Interestingly, you can start this kind of business with as little as Ksh. 10,000.
For quality, new clothes visit any wholesale store in either of these malls in Eastleigh: –
- Yare plaza.
- Hodan complex center.
- Bangkok shopping center.
- Olympic shopping center.
- Prestige shopping mall.
- Taisin shopping center.
- Amco, Amal Plaza.
- prime shopping.
- Or Beijing.
While in Eastleigh, try to window shop first, spot stores selling quality clothes then settle on quality products at cheaper prices.
If you want to start selling mitumba clothes instead, then talk to Baltic Second Hand Clothes Wholesalers.
Baltic bales go for as low as Ksh. 7,000 from which you can make up to 100% profits on retail.
If your target market is children, then go for: –
- Children Rummage B – KES. 7,000.
- Children Cotton Light – KES. 13, 600.
- Children Medium – KES. 9,900.
- Boys Mixed Pants – KES. 9,800.
If you are targeting men or women then go for:
- Ladies mix dress – Ksh. 6,800.
- Men’s jeans – Ksh. 5,000.
- Men Cotton Shirts – Ksh. 13, 500.
- Zip jackets – Ksh. 6,800.
Note: – Each bale weighs 45 Kg with 100 plus pieces of clothing. Call Carol – Call – +254 724 204873 for delivery plans.
